Bethany Smith

Bethany is an environmental social scientist with a background in participatory action research, spatial analysis, and risk assessments. Her PhD focuses on the co-production of hazard resilient adaptation pathways in the Solomon Islands, aiming to support communities in adapting to global change. This involves gaining insight into how locally relevant hazards may affect community livelihoods in order to develop adaptation strategies around community needs, aspirations, and desired development outcomes.

Bethany additionally works as a research consultant at the International Water Management Institute, where she supports land use suitability for integrated aquatic food production systems across Southeast Asia. She is also on the Committee of the Marine Social Science Associations’ (MarSocSci) Australian Chapter, supporting networking and collaboration for social scientists across Australia.
